Registration

This department of the Probate Judges Office offers services that include tags, titles, boats, hunting license, fishing license, and business license. Some of our services can be done by person, by internet, or by mail. For questions concerning any of the following, we can be contacted at 205-489-5219.

REGISTERING A NEWLY ACQUIRED VECHICLE
When purchasing a tag for a newly acquired vehicle, you must come into our office and register the vehicle within 20 days from the date of purchase. If purchased from an individual or an out of state dealer, sales tax will be due on the purchase price of the vehicle. 

VEHICLES PURCHASED FROM AN ALABAMA DEALER

• Title Application
• Bill of Sale (with sales tax breakdown)
• Current and valid Alabama Drivers License or Alabama Non-Driver ID for ALL owners on registration.
• Mandatory Liability Insurance
• If you have a title application and Bill of Sale from the dealer you can upload your documents and process your tag online at EasyTag 

VEHICLES PURCHASED FROM AN INDIVIDUAL (Alabama Title)

• Title or Alabama Title Application
• Bill of Sale(sales tax due at time of registration)
• Mandatory Liability Insurance
• Current and valid Alabama Drivers License or Alabama Non-Driver ID for ALL owners on registration.
• Individual whose name is going on the title must be present to process the title paperwork.

VEHICLES PURCHASED WITH AN OUT OF STATE TITLE (Dealer or Individual)

• Title or Alabama Title Application 
• Bill of Sale(with sales tax breakdown or sales tax will be collected at time of registration)
• Current and valid Alabama Drivers License or Alabama Non-Driver ID for ALL owners on registration.
• Mandatory Liability Insurance
• Must Bring Vehicle for Inspection or Have a State Inspection Form 

REGISTERING VEHICLES WHEN MOVING FROM ANOTHER STATE

• Title 
• Current and valid Drivers License or Non-Driver ID for ALL owners on registration
• Mandatory Liability Insurance - Must be an Alabama policy
• Must Bring Vehicle for Inspection or Have a State Inspection Form
• All Owners Listed on Title Must be Present

REGISTERING VEHICLES WHEN MOVING FROM ANOTHER STATE (With Lien)

• Copy of Current Registration
• Current and valid Drivers License or Non-Driver ID for ALL owners on registration
• Mandatory Liability Insurance - Must be an Alabama policy
• Must Bring Vehicle for Inspection or Have a State Inspection Form
• All Owners Listed on Title Must be Present
