Credit/Debit card payments will have a 2.5% fee added to the total.

Boats are not titled in Alabama, unless the boat is 16 ft to 26 ft, the year model is 2024 or newer, and the motor is greater than 75 hp.

Boat Registrations

• You can renew your boat registration online by visiting www.altagrenewals.com and choosing Winston County.

All new boat purchases will not be processed after 4:00 PM.

Used Boat Purchase (Alabama or Out-of-State Individual)

You must have:

• Bill of Sale with seller's signature, which must contain:
  • AL number or out-of-state number
  • Year model
  • Make
  • HULL number
  • Make of motor
    • Horsepower and motor serial number
• The last registration from the previous owner the boat was registered to
• Driver's license for each registrant

New Boat Purchase from a Dealer (Alabama or Out-of-State, 16'–26', 2024 or Newer)

You must have:

• Manufacturer's Certificate of Origin or title application from the Alabama dealer or Alabama lienholder
• Bill of Sale with seller's signature, which must contain:
  • Year model
  • Make
  • HULL number
  • Length of boat
  • Make of motor
    • Horsepower and motor serial number
• Name and address
• Date of birth
• Unexpired driver's license (copy will be accepted)
• Current and valid phone number

If the boat is less than 18' and has a motor of less than 75 horsepower, those will not be titled.

Pursuant to Alabama Administrative Rule 220-6-.05:

If a boat is purchased outside of Winston County, you must have the former owner's last registration and bill of sale.

If a boat is purchased out of state, you must either have the last registration and bill of sale, OR the title that lists that state's registration number and bill of sale.
